Heart of your Community Awards 2018
Heart of your Community Awards 2018
Hosted by Grimsby Live
The Heart of the Community Awards is an annual event to recognise the remarkable and inspirational people within our community. They celebrate individuals who have done extraordinary things – some have saved lives, cared for others, raised huge sums for charity or have made a real difference to their communities. Others have faced adversity or illness with great courage.
Since the event launched three years ago we have celebrated some remarkable people ranging from the ages of 8 to 90. These prestigious awards provide an excellent opportunity for local companies to partner with the Grimsby Telegraph to celebrate the people in our local community.
Congratulations to our 2017 winners…

Heart of your Community
Friend / Neighbour of the Year
The region is full of great communities both rural and urban, and in every community there is someone who is always there bringing everyone together.
They are always on hand when community projects need that extra push or when a neighbour just needs someone to pop to the shops or a bit of company.
Emergency Services of the Year
An award to honour the uniformed officers who go beyond their call of duty to help others. We want to hear about the police officers, doctors, nurses and fire officers who deserve recognition.
Community Project of the Year
A voluntary project from North East Lincolnshire that has benefited the community and been carried out by a group of local people.
Carer of the Year Award
This award will go to a special
individual who is devoted to
going above and beyond to contribute to society and help
make an invaluable difference to peoples everyday lives.
Young Sports Star
We want to recognise & celebrate the
achievements of young people in sport.
Child of Courage Award
This award looks for a young person – aged 18 or under at the closing date – who has triumphed over adversity, carried out a brave act or fought against an illness or disability.
Business in the Community Award
Businesses across East Lincolnshire make a huge contribution to their community, whether by donating money and time or supporting local causes. This award highlights an exceptional case of a company making a real contribution to their local community.
Volunteer of the Year
We want to hear all about the armies of dedicated volunteers who devote hours to helping people for no financial reward; they want to help the people out there in the community who struggle for the basic necessities of life.
Community Sports Award
This award will recognise an outstanding example of an unsung hero in the field of amateur or junior sport. The award is about honouring the coaches, captains and chairmen who give their all.
There are thousands of terrific youngsters out there, but we’re looking for someone, aged 16 or under, who deserves special recognition. This could be someone who has made a contribution to their community or overcome major setbacks to achieve a personal goal.
This award will be given to an individual or group who have made exceptional contributions toward fundraising activity and charity work across North East Lincolnshire.
The Local Hero award will recognise remarkable acts of courage or selflessness by an ordinary member of the community. This might be someone who has helped to save a life or acted in a courageous way in their community.
John Ross was passionate about Grimsby and its local community. The fund’s objective is to help foster community cohesion; develop a culture of mutual volunteering between differing age groups and communities; reinforce a sense of community with projects run ‘by the community for the community’ and to alleviate hardship in the most deprived urban areas.
The community fund aims to support local organisations and charities with grants ranging from £250 to £1,000.

Lincolnshire Housing Partnership
Lincolnshire Housing Partnership – LHP is a new 12,700 home landlord formed in April 2018 from a merger between Boston Mayflower and Shoreline Housing Partnership.
Covering the whole of the historic east coast of Lincolnshire, LHP provide affordable rental and shared ownership homes as well as a range of services to help support people and communities.
As a charitable community based organisation, we channel profit back into services and projects that benefit you – our customers and local neighbourhoods.
By uniting Boston and Shoreline, LHP benefits from an additional £50m spending capacity, which we have pledged to use to provide at least 60 extra new homes in Lincolnshire each year enabling us to house an additional 4,000 people over the next 30 years.
By coming together, we are combining our strengths to achieve more, creating a more resilient organisation, with the capacity to invest more in existing and new homes.
Taking advantage of our size, we’ll also be able to improve efficiency and value for money, while still putting customers and our employees at the heart of our decision-making.
